Once during each generation, we, the chosen few, hiked for half the day into the mountains to reach the story place where we would meet Old Master. The younger ones could have made the journey in a much shorter time, but the older ones enjoyed taking their time. Once there, the elder members of the group would gently place their brightly colored jellybean scales together on a special table rock, then they would quietly sit and patiently wait in the cool shade of the large rock walls of the mountain. As the breeze was strong and steady farther away from the rocks, we younger ones would bring kites to play with while waiting.
